Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Challenges clients in a non-threatening manner Rapidly penetrates defense barriers Provides immediate cause and effect situations in which a client experiences healthy decision making and responsibility Captivates and holds attention Promotes change from dysfunctional patterns to successful ones Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Sessions: EAP uses a team of an Equine Specialist and Therapist joined with horses to promote individual, family and group therapy. EAP is closely related to Gestalt therapy using body language to provide the patient with the opportunity to understand and discover themselves. A session primarily consists of safety reviews, setting goals and processing. It's not the goal to accomplish the goal but to understand and integrate the process. Processing focuses on communication, body language, relationships, patterns, feelings, attitudes, problem solving and closure.
